Thirtieth Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Year B
How many of you are worried about something right? I am sure most, if not all, are worried about something. And of the things that you are worried about, is it something that has not happened, like your future, your health, fear of the unknown, and might not happen, or something that is completely out of your control, like something with someone else? I have a feeling that these two things sum up what everyone is worried about. We worry about things that might happen, and it is usually the worst possible outcome, so the unknown, or something we cannot control or change. It is when we find out what happens then we can come up with a plan and try to deal with it, but it is the unknown that really makes us worry.
I mention this with the context of the first and Gospel readings, where the windows trust God and follow him. There is a big unknown in their life, like being a window with no income and how they will provide for their children, but what do they do? They trust God will provide and take care of them. That God is in control, and they try not to worry about the unknown or uncontrollable. They trust God with their lives, and I would say that they are happier because of it.
When we worry, it is usually when we cannot do anything about something. We cannot form a plan to fix or change it and we worry about what could happen, usually the worst part, this is when we wait to see what happens and go from there. Worry usually does not solve anything other than making you suffer from what might not even happen. It usually is the fear of the unknown. Let me try to help you with this, just stop it. It is not going to do any good to worry about tomorrow when it might not happen. Let me say that again, we worry about things that might not happen.
Worry is usually done when there is a plan in place, and we can do something about it. We know what we are going to do about it. That is why we need to trust God in those moments. That God is in control and working with us for our good. So, place you worries into the hands of God and allow him to take control of the unknown and allow his will to be done. It will be better and more peaceful for us if we do. It is not like we can do anything else about the unknown anyways, so we might as well trust God with it.
Trusting God is something that we do, but that is not easy to trust someone else, let alone God who we cannot see. We want to know everything and have a plan to make it better, but that is not always possible in our lives. We all think of the worst possible things and worry that it will happen. That is why trust is important to God and us. There is nothing we can do with the unknown until it is known and then we can form a plan to fix or change it. That is why trust is important, to give up our worries to God and allow his will to be done. We trust God with what we are worried about and what God wants done will happen, therefore give God those worries. In other words, if you want something to do when you are worried about the unknown, trust God. That is something that we can do, when we are worried or anxious, is trust God. See I have given you something to do.
Brothers and sisters, worrying does not help, but makes us suffer, so why do you worry? It causes nothing, but more headaches, so if you want something to do when you worry, trust God and put your focus on God until the unknown is known, then you can form a plan to change or fix it. Easier said than done but try and God will help the rest.
